Jason Sawyer
Jason Sawyer is an Associate Professor and Exercise and Movement Science Program Coordinator at Bryant University. He teaches various courses in the exercise science field, including strength and conditioning principles, exercise physiology, and exercise testing and prescription. Dr. Sawyer received his Ph. D. from Springfield College, and his doctoral studies focused on the effects of a carbohydrate restricted diet on muscular strength and power. Recently, Dr. Sawyer’s research focuses on the effects of exercise on depression in college-aged individuals. He hopes to elucidate the mechanisms by which exercise improves mood and establish specific recommendations for exercise to help combat mental illness. In addition, he supports student-centered research and enjoys seeing students present at clinics and conferences. In 2010, Dr. Sawyer received his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), a certification that he still holds. He served as the Rhode Island state representative for the NSCA, where he helped to organized yearly clinics. His coaching experience includes strength and conditioning, Olympic weightlifting, basketball, and martial arts.
